Volleyball Tournament

After over a month of driving Travis to the school early 4 days a week, the volleyball tournament finally came. Our school was against 4 other schools in the area for the tournament which included the senior boys and senior girls. Each team played 5 games and at the end of the day the Hullett boys were undefeated which one them 1st place!! The Hullet girls came in 2nd over all.

A family day!

Sunday was the perfect day to get together for skating and tobogganing. We all met up at Grandpa and Grandpa Hoggart's new house in Clinton and had some outdoor fun in town! We split up and some of us went skating and some tobogganing.

brotherly/sisterly love!?!

Not sure how this even started, but all four kids thought it was great to have a play brawl the other night! At first the three were gaining up on Travis. Once he got free, it was everyone for themselves. Dad even go in on the action!

Dixie

As many of you have heard we had a big decision to make two weeks ago. Our dog Dixie got kicked by one of the horses while trying to move them outside. She is a herding dog by instinct so whenever the animals are moved at all she is right there helping. Unfortunately this time she got kicked hard on her front leg. This was on a Wed night. Dan being the farmer he is didn't even think of bringing her to the vets. (he IS the vet on the farm for most things) But after two days of Dixie not putting any weight on her paw and not moving to far, Dan surprisingly made the phone call. He wanted to get her x-rayed to confirm the break was where he thought it was. And yes the e-ray did confirm that....it also showed one bone in her lower leg was a clean break, but the other one was crushed. After $180 dollars Dan DID NOT want to spend anymore money on "a pet". That's just the way he was raised. His solution was to bring her home and splint it in hopes it would heal. I took her for the initial apt, and refused to go back and tell the vet we were taking her home without treatment. Meanwhile I had been talking to the vet and she had since emailed the x-rays to another vet which said that a cast or surgery would not fix her leg. The two options were amputation or put her down.....So that put a stop to Dan's plan. So what do we do.....The amputation would be another $400. Dan knew the kids and I didn't want to put her down. (Anyone who knows Dixie knows what a wonderful dog she is) And honestly I don't think he wanted to put her down either. It came down to he didn't think the amputation would be fair to Dixie. He didn't want to bring her home and have her on the farm and not be able to do what she loves. The vets assured us that dogs recover and adapt very well.  In the end Dan agreed to go ahead with the surgery. Last Tuesday she went and had her leg amputated and surprisingly to all of us she has done amazing! She came home last Thursday and has been getting around great....slower, but very good. 

This is a video of Dixie last Thursday two days after surgery. A week later and she doing great! Unfortunately I still have to yell at her to stay back when I've let the horses out or move the sheep!

Babies!

After borrowing a male guinea pig last summer without success, we decided to buy a male as a friend for Bugsey our female guinea pig. After a long 68ish days of waiting she had three adorable babies. These pictures are of them when they are less then 24hrs old!! Baby guinea pigs are born with their eyes open, fur grown and ready to run around with their siblings. I couldn't wait for the kids to see why I was so excited. They've had lots of fun playing with and caring for these little critters. The babies are now four weeks old, and we have just recently given two of the babies away to friends. I agreed to let Stanley stay and join our family of pets :)

Dawson's new friend!

Dawson has always had a fascination with turtles. After having the baby snapper here for a few days he really wanted a turtle he could keep of his own. He was trying very hard to save up enough money to by one, but I knew that would take a long time. So yes we added another little critter to our family of pets! It worked out perfectly. Two days before Christmas while Dawson and Kortney were at Sara and Shayna's house I took the other two kids with me to pick out a turtle. We then came home, set up the aquarium in the basement all without Dawson knowing! Then Christmas Eve once everyone was asleep, Dan and I moved the turtle to the living room for Dawson to find in the morning! He was very happy and surprised!! Here are some pics of him and Flash!

Every year we are blessed with nice weather to travel to LionsHead. We are also lucky to be able to stay for a few days to visit with family. Here are just a few pics of another wonderful Christmas!

This past fall the store flyers we receive in the mail changed from coming in a plastic bag to being bundled up in paper. A change for the environment I guess, but I saw it as large blank paper coming to our door every week - perfect since the kids go through paper like crazy with all their drawing. I started saving this wonderful paper in a drawer. After Christmas shopping one day and coming home to wrap, it dawned on me that this paper would make great gift wrap! I had seen before the idea of making your own gift wrap, but never searched out where to buy the rolls of paper I would need. But now, these perfect sized sheets of blank paper were being delivered to us!! So out with the box of Christmas stamps and it didn't take long for the kids decorate all the paper we had been collecting. When it came time to wrap presents it was great and the kids were proud of the work they had done and their contribution to every present!
